As Bell started asking around about the boat, he realized that nobody seemed to know where the boat had gone, which was troubling.  Mike and Ossa, presumably occupied in their work inside of the team’s base, sent Bell and JohnnyViral to look for the boat for the time being.  The two scoured the coastline until the sun started to set, but the boat didn’t seem anywhere on the island, which meant that someone had sailed away on it?  Or that it had sunk?  It was hard to tell if the boat had disappeared mysteriously, or if they just weren’t looking in quite the right places…

Perhaps in preparation for a search for the boat, or perhaps purely for practice and personal interest, Mostly was focusing intently on improving his [agility] through the practice of various ninja arts, utilizing the smoke bombs he had created.

As Blu asked the guard if he could think of any songs that might attract an armored bear, the guard rolled his eyes.

“Why would you want to do that, man?  Those things will just maul you to death.”

But Blu was insistent; He had seen the armored bear and now wanted nothing more than to call to it.  After all, what could be more metal than an armored bear?

“Listen, man.  I don’t friggin’ know – what are you asking – bear call songs?  If you really want to get the bear’s attention man, just like, follow your heart or something.”

Blu couldn’t really figure out if the guard just really didn’t care, or was actually trying to give him sound advice.  As was usually the case, the guards were not the most useful people in the islands.

Once the team had received their insanely metal instruweaponments from Blu, as well as their heavy metal ensemble, they set about their day as normal, but with metal constantly in the back of their minds.  Everything just felt a little bit more metal, so much so that a couple of the members had to fight off the idea that they had become cyborgs.

It was that metal.

The Awesome Squad was as awesome as they were practical, and quite a few of them spent their day gathering resources.  As Mike watched the tentacle idiot wiggle on the wall (I typed that description, looked at it, blinked a lot, and then decided to leave it unchanged :P) he began to expand their shelter, constructing an extra room for JohnnyViral’s ventures while also adding the frame for another little house.  Slowly but surely, he was turning what was nothing into a home for The Awesome Squad.

While Blu focused on mastering his inner RAGINGBONER, he couldn’t for the life of him find the armored bear.  For some reason the bear’s footprints trailed off onto the shore and then just vanished, and he couldn’t for the life of him figure out why.  Meanwhile, Ossa focused on his newly acquired tentacles, playing the guitar, and obviously most importantly, playing the guitar with his newly acquired tentacles.  Not well, mind you, as he seriously needed to practice both the guitar and these new arms, but he could strum enough chords well enough that he could’ve probably made a career out of it.  Still, that wasn’t nearly enough for him, but it would have to be enough for today.

Bell was normally really good at finding things, but today, Bell couldn’t even manage to find the ship.  Scratching his head, he figured maybe somebody took it out for a spin?  It was hard to keep track of everyone when most people worked by themselves.  Well, earlier today he had – er, Ossa had finished perfecting the ward, to keep spirits away in the future, but other than that…  He decided it might be best to ask around, see if anyone on his team knew where the ship had gone off to.

Bell decides to get a recipe for anti-ghost stuff, mostly because it apparently was a problem, and seemed to possibly be an increasing problem in the future.  The recipe was pretty simple, too.

“1 wood, 1 writing material (chalk, ink, etc.), the words, ‘Leave us alone, stupid otherworldly entities.'”

Surprised at how easy the recipe was, Bell and Ossa gathered up some coal dust and pressed it into a writing stick, then gathered up some wood and tried to think of a way to reword the message so that it would be extra super powerful and effective.  JohnnyViral accompanied them, searching for some other materials of his own, picking up various pieces of the turret recipe while keeping the finer fibers in mind for potentially weaving a lab coat.

As Hawkers tried to float off of the island, Ossa proposed a keyboarding spot in their band to the ghost.  Either he didn’t hear him, or didn’t care to respond, but either way Ossa decided the only socially acceptable thing to do was to mangle the ethereal form of the ghost violently with his mysterystuff, until the ghost whimpered and limped away, back to wherever it had come from.

Blu gathered the team back at their base at the end of the day, and on their way back Blu noted that there was – apparently – an armored bear somewhere on the island, but he decided to avoid the bear and show off his great work.  In a way that wasn’t awkward at all, Blu showed off the finished instrumentaweaponals and armor outfits and all that good stuff, and told everyone to gear up so that they could finally practice their metal, giving everyone a boner apparently.  It was time to get this show on the road!

While Mike was working on finishing his impressive gate and handing out the assorted keys to go with it, officially completing the fortress, Ossa came by and added his own special touch to the wall, causing it to sprout various tentacles along the base.  Pleased with himself, Ossa proceeded to work on setting up various fires around the camp, to which he added even more various tentacles, creating the perfectly creepy atmosphere he so desired.  He watched as Blu finished making about half of the instruweapons (or were they weaponstruments?) with a look of intrique, but couldn’t think of a way adding tentacles would improve the wonders pieces of craftsmanship and their boner-inducing properties.

While JohnnyViral was working on collecting resources, of which he really only had time to collect about half of the rock for one recipe, Mostly came up with the brilliant idea of compressing the toxic fumes.  Running the fumes through the compressor resulting in small capsules of the stuff, which feasibly would turn back into a cloud of fumes if pressure was added – in short, tiny smoke bombs, except slightly more noxious.

All during the day, The Awesome Squad could feel the presence of Hawkers89, who would take over the muscle’s reflexes for a couple of seconds and cause people’s limbs to sort of spasm uncontrollably.  Ossa thought this was weird, if not slightly amusing, so as he clearly watched the ghost float around their team, he decided not to do anything.

That night, as JohnnyViral was walking past LooseLips, Hawkers89 decided to strike out at JohnnyViral, taking control of his body.  Once inside, JohnnyViral started acting really strange;  For starters, he gripped the front of his clothes and tugged, not really accomplishing much.  Secondly, he grabbed himself inappropriately while walking towards LooseLips, and finally he let out a bunch of muffled sounds from inside of his gas mask that were pretty impossible to hear.

After Hawkers89 had been fought out of JohnnyViral’s body, he lifted his mask up and apologized to LooseLips for his strange behavior, keeping wary of ghosts in the future.

A good half of the team spends the day gathering materials.  Mostly fishes about [30 fish], while Mike and Bell set off to find some ore.  While Bell wanders off a bit, he manages to find a pretty hefty vein of ore, which is completely ridiculous and makes Mike exclaim loudly while waving his hands around in ridiculous gestures while using a ridiculous voice.  The whole thing is ridiculous.

Meanwhile, Blu finished making the incredibly metal armor for the team.  Very proud of his work, Blu runs and gives each person some metal armor.  Not like, metal armor – well, you suppose it is made out of metal.  But this armor, is so very metal. Like metal metal.

JohnnyViral refrained from face-palming just long enough to go aboard the ship and request some recipes.  For a defense turret, the machine spat out the following recipe:

“1 animal, 2 fire, 2 rounded stone, 10 wood, 50 air, 100 rock.”

When he requested a recipe for defenses, the ship returned the exact same recipe, except without the two rounded stones.  He couldn’t help but feel that the science behind the ship was slightly sarcastic.

Having mastered the voices, Ossa decided to test out his new powers on various living things to see what results the yielded.  First, he transformed a squirrel, the squirrel’s bones snapping and twisted until eventually it became just a disembodied tentacle, flopping around like a fish.  Dissatisfied, Ossa then decided to try something similar on a raccoon with much better results.  The raccoon’s face turned into a tentacle, or a tentacle came out of its face, whichever makes the least sense.  Without the ability to see, the raccoon ran around panicked, and Ossa laughed an Ossa laugh.

Bell stumbled into camp holding an arm full of lumber and various metal ores.  Nobody was exactly sure where he had wandered off to, but they were certainly glad to see him back in one piece.

With the ore Bell had brought, Mike decided to work on the gate.  For some reason, Blu seemed to have taken to resting the last few days, and though you weren’t exactly sure why, it was a little concerning.  That and with Ossa being deep in a meditative trance, improving his mysterystuff so greatly that at the end of the day his mind had ascended to the level of the voices as he mastered [all of the mysterystuff], the camp felt a little less lively than usual.  Still, Mike didn’t think Blu would mind him using his forge while he… just kinda sat there.  He made the lock mechanic for the gate, as well as the [keys] and a couple of bars for the gate, but he was definitely going to need some more ore to finish a giant gate to match the Deadly Death Wall.

Viral spends part of his day talking to Ossa about [mysterystuff], but as the day goes on he feels like Ossa’s mind is slipping into the voices and Ossa stops responding to his conversation.  Confident that Ossa will be alright, Viral decides to give LooseLips the go-ahead on using their ship for research, and then proceeds to test out the gas masks that he had created.

Visibility – Viral was a bit iffy on this one.  While they were easy to see out of, their design sort of limited peripheral vision, making them a little less than ideal for purely aesthetic use.
Ease of Use – Check
Breath Quality – Check
Coolness Factor – Check
Mad Genius Aesthetic – As much of a check as one can have, teetering the dangerous line between serious insanity and general coolness.
Durability – Check
Reliability – The mask seemed reliable, but a meter on the side does indicate that it only seemed to be blocking out about 99% of all of the toxic.  This meant that any given day, it would be fine to be on board, but multiple full days, back to back, might cause Viral to develop that nasty cough again, or worse.  So, no harm in using it every day, but probably not great to sleep on or travel on day after day after day.

Mostly gathered the wood and rock needed, and had enough time to catch a fish or two.  Certainly not the fish that needed to be fished, but fish nevertheless!  While fishing, he is approached by another person, but not a member of his team.  Leading him back to camp, this person doesn’t seem to speak English, like everyone else on the island, but communicates with a series of hand gestures that the emission from the science ship makes him upset and should be filtered for the sake of the environment.

Day 11: The Awesome Squad

Captain Ossa

JohnnyViral
A random guard (NPC)

JohnnyViral and Ossa talk about [mysterystuff] while collecting the remaining rock, which JohnnyViral then uses to finish the gas masks for his team! After distributing the gas masks, JohnnyViral noted that at the very least, they looked pretty damned metal.

Mike spent his turn constructing a Deadly Death Wall with Super Awesome Squad Spikes (TM).  The wall was so deadly, and the spikes were so spiky, that it took him the whole day to finish.  Aside from the hole that would one day be a gate, nobody was getting through these walls, or at least, not without risk of deadly spike death.

Mostly compresses air, which seems to compress air at a ridiculously fast rate.  At the end of the day, Mostly had about 1440 air, which was way more than the initial abstract quota of air.

LooseLips reaches your island, offering your team a trade.  If LooseLips could provide you services related to the boat they had crafted, or possibly offer you salt or some fish, they wished to use your boat’s science station to research something to aid their fishing endeavors, valuing your ship for the great asset it is.

At the end of the day, you notice that Bell appears to  have gone missing, possibly due somehow to the strange illness that is idling.
